Studio Update/Informational Tidbit

This time of year is perfect for an outdoor family portrait session! Regardless of the location you want, be it a field, local park, or any of Lafayette's beautiful surroundings, there are lots of wardrobe options to consider. Here are a few of our favorite looks for this season!
First, consider the spring color palette this year. Most designers favor any combination of these shades in their spring lines.

http://www.restylinghomebykellyblog.com/?p=4958

You can create a stylish look with any one of these colors, simply paired with white or other neutrals, such as the Starfish or Driftwood shades. Alternately, these colors can work well together to create a more playful or dramatic look.
Sodalite Blue would pair well with Sweet Lilac, Solar Power or Margarita.
Some of the stronger hues like Bellflower, Cabaret and Tangerine Tango will make great accent colors for accessories, shoes and jewelry.

     Gap has the same concept!

http://www.gap.com/browse/subDivision.do?cid=5646

You can create a variety of looks with these color ideas, from casual to sophisticated, splashy to subdued. If you use a strong color, be sure to balance it out with plenty of white or neutral pieces as well. Above all, be sure to let each family member’s personality shine through.

Belly to Baby model search has come to a close, and no entries were made, so there are no new models to decorate the face of the new campaign as of yet! Despite the lack of entries, I will continue with Belly to Baby, a program that includes pictures from maternity to baby's first year (pictures taken every 3 months). Interested in this program for yourself or as a gift to an expecting mom? Contact me to schedule!
Last but not least, I am fostering the sweetest pup in the world (not photography related I know... but this one is close to my heart). As most of you know from facebook, I came across a small-medium size lab mix that was scheduled to be put down at the end of the day. Being the bleeding heart that I am, I could not let this happen to her! I took her in with the intention of finding her a new loving home. If you or someone you know are interested in a new companion, please call 337.322.9967. She does really well with small children and other dogs. She doesn't jump on you or furniture (that right there is a plus)!

Beautiful, sweet May!

Here she is again, getting interrogated from my crazy dog Boomer.
She handled him with such grace!

Model Search to kick off Belly to Baby Program!

Welcome back everyone! I am back in full swing again! YAY! Ok. Now to get down to business... A new campaign is being launched on my end, and it is the new baby program for Trahan Studio! The name will be Belly to Baby. Now all I need is adorable and beautiful faces to adorn my advertisements! Want to be a part of this madness? (In a good way!)
First, you need to either be pregnant (must be either in 3rd trimester or be close to it - if belly is past your breasts, then you are good to go!), or have a newborn, 3,6,9 month, or 1 year old. They can be close to these ages to qualify. Quickly snap a picture of you or your little one (Everyone has a cellphone camera! Go for it!) and email me the picture, as well as a little something as to why you would love to be included! 3 people per category will be chosen. The shoot is free, and you will receive a credit for an 8X10 - a $25 value! Deadline for entries is April 10th at 5:00pm. If all goes well, announcements will be made by the end of the day on April 11th.
What if I am chosen? - First, we meet up to cuss and discuss the details of your shoot and sign a model release. This is the time where we would discuss the clothes, location, and any other concerns you may have. Next time we would meet up would be the day of the shoot. About 2 weeks after the shoot, I will give you a call and we would meet up for a 3rd time. This is the viewing and ordering of the pictures! This is such an exciting time!!!

Craziness around Trahan Studio!

Hello Everyone!
Welcome back to the blog! I just wanted to let everyone know I will be out of commission for the next month. Blah I know! I have a ridiculous sized ganglion cyst in the joint of my wrist. That bad boy has been giving me issues, and its finally at the point that I can't hold my large lenses anymore. So.... needless to say, I am extremely nervous about having one of my money makers cut on tomorrow! I am hoping and praying the doctor does a fabulous job, and has me up and running sooner than expected! This no shooting business is a bummer!
On my downtime however, I have TONS of things planned! Launch a new credit pricing structure, work on Belly to Baby (still playing around with names for this one...) stuff, seminars... All kinds of things! This little brain of mine just never stops whirling with ideas for my business! I am going to need a few models for a campaign I will be starting up, so keep an eye out on the FB page for details! I am terrible at keeping secrets, so I am trying not to let too much leak out just yet... Just know it will be a really good deal to get your hands on!!!
Just know I will still be booking shoots while I am down. (You may want to give me about a week after this surgery though... Meds make me rather loopy. You would get a good laugh, but me... well I would just be in my own world and forget everything discussed!) I am expecting to get up and shooting around Easter. Weather is getting gorgeous again, so now is the time to book!
I will be back soon enough, but before I jet out, I thought I would leave all of you with one last picture. I think it sums up how I am feeling right now! JUST SHOOT ME!
Just Shoot Me!

Monday, February 27, 2012

First off, I want to thank you for following me on facebook, and for checking out my new snazzy blog! Ok, so it's not so snazzy, but it a start! I figured I would start this blog off by letting you in on a little bit of what is going on on this end of things. I have been feeling the need to give back to my community recently, and something came my way that I want to share with you.
When my baby was about 2 or 3 months old, I stopped in at a friend's business place for a quick visit, and just before leaving, a girl who used to be a labor and delivery nurse approached me about a charity that was in desperate need of photographers. (The last I checked there was only 1 photographer for the Lafayette area.) My heart stopped a little when she handed me the brochure. It was for an organization called Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (NILMDTS).
I knew exactly what it was, because I came across their website when I was pregnant for my now 1 year old, and balled like a baby when I read some of the stories on the site. It is an organization for families who have just lost a baby, or will lose their baby soon after birth. A photographer goes to the hospital and does a complimentary shoot for the family with their baby.
With tears in my eyes, I looked back at the girl and said, "You know, I thought about joining NILMDTS a while back, but especially now that I'm a mother, I don't think I can do this." - I honestly didn't know how to approach it. First off, I was still a HUGE ball of hormones from the birth of my baby. She pleaded me to look into it, or ask around to see if anyone else would interested in helping out. I held onto the brochure- believe it or not it made it through our move to the new house, and I STILL have it. I told her I would pass the word around for her. I never did stop thinking about joining NILMDTS.
Fast forward a bit. A fellow photographer put up a post for a webinar for an amazing photographer named Sandy Puc. I had no idea what I stumbled upon. I started watching and after about 5 minutes I was hooked. She was a very inspirational woman, and I got caught up in her 3 day long webinar series. At the end of day 2, she ended her webinar with a clip of how she co-founded NILMDTS. The first thing out of my mouth was "SHUT UP!" I called my husband in to listen (He has had this organization on his mind since he heard about it too).
The last thing she said was "Photographers all over are getting so burned out with this organization because there aren't enough people. They are spending every waking hour donating and working for this organization. You cannot change the fact that these people will lose their child, but you can give them the best gift ever- A memory of their child" Once again, I was going through my entire box of kleenex.
I had the biggest change of heart ever. I couldn't walk away and do nothing. I have been given the gift of photography, and it's time I use it to give back. Now this will be the hardest thing I will ever have to do, for I don't deal with death well. What I can give to a family going through one of the hardest things ever will absolutely be worth so much more than anything I have ever done. The thought that there isn't someone there when a family desperately wants those last moments captured eats at me so much.
I am now filling out the paperwork to get the ball rolling for NILMDTS. I encourage each of you to look into donating something to this wonderful organization. Pro photographers, please look into it. I am probably the most emotional person you will ever meet, so I know you can do it. Those of you who aren't photogs, please donate. Grab your box of tissues before visiting their site - you WILL need it! Their website is http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/
I do want to end this post on a light note though. All while spending all my weekend watching a Sandy Puc webinar, I was celebrating the birth of my ooey gooey baby! She has made it to a year, and is such a funny child. I figured I would post a picture from her birthday! (Of course I work as the photographer for my kid's party! It's too much fun to pass up! Ok, I lie. I passed the camera off for a while to get messy with the bebe!)
Me, my Ooey Gooey baby, and My Crazy Hubby!
